The story follows John Carter, a former Confederate captain who is mysteriously transported to Mars (called Barsoom), where the planet’s lower gravity gives him superhuman strength and jumping ability. He becomes caught in a conflict between Martian civilizations and fights to save the planet alongside Dejah Thoris.
