The Ekiti State House of Assembly, on Wednesday, passed the amended 2021 bill for the creation of 19 new Local Council Development Authority (LCDAs), barely 24-hours after Governor Kayode Fayemi’s presentation.
The bill was unanimously passed at Wednesday’s plenary, held in Ado-Ekiti, and presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Funminiyi Afuye.
The proposed new LCDAs, as earlier forwarded by Governor Fayemi on Tuesday, are;
• Ado Central LCDA
• Ado North LCDA
• Ado West LCDA
• Ajoni LCDA
• Araromi LCDA
• Ekameta LCDA
• Ekiti South East LCDA
• Ero LCDA
• Gbonyin LCDA
• Ifedara LCDA
• Ifeloju LCDA
• Ifesowopo LCDA
• Igbara-Odo/Ogotun LCDA
• Ikere West LCDA
• Ikole West LCDA
• Irede LCDA
• Irewolede LCDA
• Isokan LCDA
• Okemesi/Ido-Ile LCDA
By the passage, Ekiti will now have a total of 35 Local Government Administrations, when added to the existing 16 constitutionally recognised Local Governments.
Contributing earlier during the debate, members, including the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon (Alh.,) Hakeem Jamiu, APC, Irepodun/Ifelodun 2, Hon. Gboyega Aribisogan, Majority Leader and Hon. Ajibade Adeyemi, APC Moba 1, lauded the governor’s initiative.
Also other members, Hon. Yemisi Ayokunle, APC Ekiti South West 1; Hon. Stephen Aribasoye, APC Ikole 2; and Hon. Tunde ldowu, APC, Ikere 2, appreciated Governor Fayemi for the executive bill.
They called for its speedy passage while the 2014 Principal law on LCDAs creation was amended.
Our state correspondent reports that earlier, members of the State Assembly screened and confirmed Mr Ayoola Owolabi, former Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development, as Chairman, Ekiti Audit Service Commission.
Mrs. Cecilia Dada, Mr Kolawole Olanipekun and Mr. Tope Adefila were also confirmed as members of the commission.
Other businesses of Wednesday’s plenary included passage of a bill for a law to provide for financial autonomy for Ekiti Judiciary.
According to members like Hon. Akin, APC Ido/Osi 1; Hon. Olajide Adegoke; APC Efon; and Hon. Olubunmi Adelugba, APC, Emure; the bill, if assented to, would see to the implementation of judiciary autonomy.
Also, the report of the House Committee on Judiciary and Legal Matters on the state office of the Attorney-General’s Bill, 2021, was adopted.
The report was submitted by the committee’s Chairman, Hon. Tajudeen Akingbolu, APC, Ekiti West 1.
However, the bill for Ekiti Drugs and Health Supplies Management Agency, 2021, was committed to the House Committee on Health, HIV and AIDS for further legislative scrutiny.
The House thereafter adjourned to Monday, August 9, for plenary.
